Inbox and texting (SMS and MMS)
Text customers from your Dialstitch numbers. How the Inbox works, sending photos and files, opt-outs and A2P 10DLC registration for business texting.
The Inbox keeps texts and calls together, one conversation per person. Open Inbox in the sidebar to see every conversation on the numbers you can use. The list updates live as texts come in.
Send a text
Start a message
In Inbox, select New Message. Or open an existing conversation.
Pick the number to send from
From lists the numbers that can text, your personal numbers first, then shared ones, tagged Personal or Shared.
Enter the recipient
Type the number in To, such as +14155550123. You can text one person at a time.
Write and send
Type your message and select Send Message. Inside a conversation, use the composer at the bottom and select Send.
Inside a conversation you can also call the person, mark them as a favorite, add them as a contact and search the conversation.
Photos and files (MMS)
Attach files from inside a conversation: select Attach a file or drag files onto the conversation. The New Message window can't attach files, so send the first text, then attach in the conversation.
- Up to 3 attachments per message, 5 MB each.
- Supported types: JPG, PNG, GIF, PDF and vCard.
- Images show inline. Other files show as downloads.
- Incoming files over 10 MB can't be loaded and show as "Attachment could not be loaded".
Who can text from which number
- A personal number can only be used by the person it's assigned to.
- Shared numbers can be used by everyone they're shared with.
- Numbers without texting turned on don't appear in From.
Opt-outs
If someone texts exactly STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE or CANCEL to one of your numbers, they're opted out of texts from that number, and Dialstitch won't send to them from it. If they text START, UNSTOP or SUBSCRIBE, they're opted back in. These keyword texts don't notify anyone or start workflows.
Numbers on your do-not-call list can't be texted either.
A2P 10DLC registration
US carriers expect businesses that text from local (10-digit) numbers to register under A2P 10DLC. Registration is done with the carrier. Once a number is registered, an admin marks it in Dialstitch:
Open the number
Go to Admin, then Numbers, and edit the number.
Mark it registered
Under SMS registration (A2P 10DLC), turn on Registered and enter the A2P campaign reference.
Save
The number shows an A2P Registered badge in the list.
